Second Day at Petra
Day 9, June 22 1998, Petra

The second day at Petra. Very tired, muscles are functioning within specified parameters, but only barely. The 6-hour walk to Mt. Hor was aborted. I met a girl named Sarah and her girlfriend. We visited the Necropolis (what is it with the Nabateans, were they too lazy to drag their dead all the way through the Siq?) We drank some more overpriced tea and Pepsi. Met a cat which seemed nice but later on decided to bite Dennis. This is a warning to cats: Dennis'll bite back.

Walked to the Crusader fort, not much of a fort really. Path went around the mountain, then we came upon Qasr Al-Rint Firaun. Walked through the temple of the Winged Lion, though we saw no felines, winged or otherwise equipped for flight, near.
During one of my climbing antics, I suddenly found myself trapped on a ledge without a safe way out. It was not until I turned around that I saw that the rock overhanging the ledge was shaped like an enormous skull. Hmm... bad move. Luckily I could find a way back, though it was not without its perils.

Next to the Regal tomb, a very cool place (in terms of temperature) to take a well-deserved rest, we tried to climb up the mountain, but the path was hard going, and we had to turn back. Back to base camp. Very tired.
